I'm also using an old script that always worked for me, from one of the first pages of this topic i suppose, i can't even remember. Never tried to change or improve it, has it works perfectly well.

i read further back in the thread. i think you must change several url in the script line 442,443 and possible 483, 484 from projectgorgon.com to client.projectgorgon.com. cant find the line for welcome.txt, this is to future proof the launcher functionality

Yes, the original launcher (mine) has already been updated several months ago to integrate this change. As far as I know through, previous versions still work at the moment.
I have no idea which crash MFsorc fixed in his launcher (which was based on parts of my original launcher release), but I'm pretty sure my launcher isn't affected by it. Maybe it would make sense to remerge the code-bases to prevent this duplicate work that is currently going on? What do you think MFsorc?

MFsorc's launcher has a gui, which i think was a motivation for making it.

The launcher would crash when updating fragmented game data, the fix dealt with printing to the text window.

We could make a topic for each launcher to reduce confusion and provide better support. Then it would be left up to the users to choose which launcher they pref. However both will be obsolete when the game switches over to Steam. Anyone know the time frame of when that is to occur?

Well I actually went ahead and incorporated all of your changes back into original launcher software (it was always meant to have a GUI anyways). You're welcome to contribute to this version if your interested.

I am using SharDragons downloader and the terminal window keeps insta crashing every 2-5 minutes or so. Running Linux Mint. Are people still using this without issues? I am a bit confused how the game is able to run natively without wine just because of a custom launcher? That boggles my pea brain.

I cannot reproduce this unfortunately.
Are you using the latest version? (The launcher does not auto-update itself.)
Does the terminal output look like this?
Is your internet connection stable?

Also please try this:
  1. Launch a new terminal
  2. (In the terminal) open the directory of pgLauncher by typing:
    cd "<Directory of Launcher>"
Where <Directory of Launcher> is the directory in which you have unpacked the most recent version of my launcher.
  3. Run the launcher manually using:
    ./project-gorgon
  4. Select and copy all messages that are printed before the launcher terminates and upload them somewhere

It passes the magic /linux-rocks command-line switch to the game, to make it start. ;)

Actually Project:Gorgon has always (kind-of, unofficially) supported Linux; they have just never published a game launcher that will actually download and use the Linux game binaries that are hosted on their sever.
So basically all this launcher does is to download and run those Linux binaries instead of the Windows/Mac ones. Main engineering part on my end was to figure out (1) that those binaries actually exist and (2) which quirks are needed to properly download them, so that they will actually work.

I had his problem last time the game updated. The terminal would only download 1 package (?) at a time and then it would close out. When I reopened it, it would find what it had already downloaded and pick up where it left off. So it would be like "Downloading filename 3 (1/12)" and proceed to download that entire file (all 12 pieces in this example). Upon completion the terminal would crash.

If there's a way to show you my logs, I'd be happy to send them to you. I just need to know how.

Also running Linux Mint (Rosa)
